Leydi's Yearly Photo 2010

I was happy to see an updated picture of Leydi in my CI account. She is growing up fast!!! I find it interesting that she is standing in the same background that she was when I first started sponsoring her 2 years ago. I am anxious to hear the news of the party that Barbara put together for Crismairy, Leydi and Dulce- Barbara, also, put some photos in the mail and they are headed my way. writes really informative letters. This time she wrote, "I greet you and
thank you very much for the gift you sent to my daughter. She is very
happy and liked it very much. She liked the princess doll you sent. She
was amazed by the Spongebob Squarepants story book. It is very nice. Let
me tell you that she began school and she studies in the mornings because
during the afternoons she plays and does her homework. She never misses an
episode of Spongebob Squarepants, of the Princesses and Barney. I really
thank you very much for putting a smile on my daughter's face, for the
gifts you sent."

Five Sweet Children Need Sponsors!

Eloina thanks you for the letter you sent her and she is happy to know that even though you are far away you think about hder and she tells you that she has a dog called Estrella and she likes to watch channel 13 and she likes to watch cartoons and Eloina tell you that what she likes the most from school is to draw and to color and she is learning to read and to write because she wants to write letters and Eloina tells you that she already knows the numbers from one to one-hundred and she tells you that she loves her teacher and friends and they share snacks and they play and she says so long with a hug and a kiss. A Letter from Marelyn

I recently received the latest letter from 11 year old Marelyn in Guatemala in reply for her Easter package. This time I included a scrapbook which I made for her in which I included many of my favourite photos of her as well as many of my own life. This was to outline our relationship since I began sponsoring her in 2005. You can see that it was well received.

Dear Barbara Rogers

I want to thank you for your nice gifts; I received, 1 pair of pants and 1 pair of panties, 1 dress, 1 blouse, one two piece swimming suit, 1 toy egg, 1 telescope, 1 sticker game, 4 small stuffed toys (for her siblings) 1 Easter box and 1 beautiful album (the scrapbook). I can see that it was handmade by you. Thank you very much for all the photos, the markers, eraser and 1 pair of scissors. All the gifts are so beautiful. Let me tell you that my pants fits me so well as well as the dress and the swimming suit; it is so beautiful too. I hope to use the swimming suit during summer time because I am going to visit some pools soon.

Here in Guatemala we are celebrating Easter time. I attended a service during the Ash Wednesday and during the service a cross was done on my forehead. The weather is so hot here in Guatemala. I am going to try to send you an Easter calendar. [ instead she drew me a clever copy of the beautiful flower carpets which cover the streets in Guatemala at Easter as well as another drawing of the beach with waves and palm trees - she is a very talented artist for her age].

I am sending you some photos of myself. In one of the pictures I am with the uniform that I wear when I play in the school band; and the others are about the wedding of my parents. After visiting the pools I am going to take some pictures and then I will send them to you. [Probably with the digital camera sent to her won during a lottery].

Perla's Fundraiser

This is a really simple fundraiser that will be a big help for a family in Mexico. We only need to raise $216 to provide Perla with a bed and clothes and her family with a stove. Perla's mother is raising 5 children on her own. The oldest two girls are 7. The youngest children are a 3 year old and 2 year old twins. Can you imagine the struggles her mother is facing!? was amused to see that she refers to the video game in her letter as "el
nintendo," but they translated it as "the gameboy"! She wrote: "Thanks for
the gameboy, I loved it and also the books. I am very happy for your gift.
Nobody has sent me anything from the USA before."

A Letter from Yohana

Here is my first letter from Yohana in Tanzania:

"Dear Heather,
My name is Yohana. I am 15 years old and I just started at NVTC College in Mwanza City. I am very happy to get a letter from you and one good letter. I enjoyed it very much.

Yep, that is all he wrote, but he did write :o) At least he let me know that he appreciates my letters. You know how busy college kids are ;o)

A Letter from Leydi

Leydi never writes a whole lot in her letters, but considering her age (just turned 8 this month) and where she lives (Dominican Republic), I think she is doing a great job!

Here is her latest letter:

I received a letter from Susana in Tanzania. She drew flowers on her letter. This is what she wrote:
