The Vice President of MAC turns 20!!

Just kidding everyone! All joking aside- Mrs. McKenzie Fritch, AKA Mack has a birthday today (she has accepted the title of VP of the MAC group, and I am very happy to have her on board)! So, for her birthday, I am giving her the best thing a sponsor can get: A sponsor child (young man really)!! His birthday is on February 12, so they are even close in birth dates!! In two days, he will be 22 year old! Orebo Denis Oscar is the young man you see painting in these three pictures. He is part of our MIC group. While most of our MIC group is women, there are some young men included for various reasons. The reason that Oscar was included is because he can not work in the stone quarry due to asthma.

Oscar comes from Gulu in Northern Uganda. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this area, there was a time, not that long ago when it was plagued with a violent war. That is why most of the people from Northern Uganda fled to the capital of the country, Kampala. The fighting has ceased now, but the scars remain (physical, emotional, and mental). Oscar lost his father to the rebels, I can't even imagine the pain that must have caused him!

Oscar has been struggling alone to raise his own school fees, and now he has finished his secondary education. He waiting for the results of the test to see if he will be able to go on to a university. Depending on what the test results are, he will either join a university or an apprenticeship-type institution. He is working with the MIC group to raise funds for his education either in a university or otherwise. He will be receiving his test results at the end of the month.

Mack, Happy Birthday! I hope you enjoy your correspondence with your first sponsor young man!

You can see the women and young men available for sponsorship & updates by following the MIC web-site .

Thanks, Heather, what an awesome gift! I'm excited about having a sponsored "child" who already knows how to write! Hey, will you have room in your CUS package for a bunch of unused asthma inhalers? I wonder if Oscar could benefit from them?
